Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist
Welcome! I’m glad you have made your way here. My name is Marie and I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist in Brussels. Of Irish origin, I work in English with adults who’s first language is English or with those who’s preferred second language is English.
I work primarily, but not exclusively, with Addiction and Trauma and am passionate about Recovery and indeed recovery maintenance.
Ultimately, the aim is to promote healing and facilitate wholeness and self-awareness – ensuring that all levels of your being and functioning (mental, physical, and emotional) are maximised to their full potential
Why Choose Me
For therapy to work you need to find someone who’s right for you, you need to feel comfortable with them, and you need to know they cover the issues you want to work on — whatever’s important to you. I view therapy as a journey of self-exploration to increase self-understanding, self-awareness and ultimately self-empowerment.
I see myself as a facilitator – helping you to become familiar with your woundedness, while offering strategies, tools and techniques that allow you to muster your own resources to successfully overcome any challenges and blocks to your personal growth. The foundation of my therapy practice is based on cultivating and nurturing a strong healthy working relationship through active listening, empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence, while, at the same time always remembering that it is not my job to fix. Therapy takes time and a willingness to be open. It can be both challenging and enlightening.

What I Offer
Whatever your reason for seeking counselling or therapy, I believe in a non-judgmental and transformative way of working that is tailored to meet and fulfil your particular needs, at this time of your life. In my experience, lasting positive change really is possible
Addiction
Addiction is a multi-faceted condition which is often measured, in part, by the impact it makes on a person’s quality of life. It is treatable and can be successfully managed.
Trauma
Finding somebody to talk with about your feelings rather than turning to alcohol or drugs, or other addictive behavior.
Codependency
Codependents will put their energy into helping for others. We need to strive for a balance between helping others and taking care of ourselves.
The Hidden Story of Addiction
How It Works
Trauma, abuse, poor self-image and shame are some of the internalised unresolved issues that underpin trauma and addiction. The long-term recovery journey must involve discovering healthy ways to deal with those issues.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a typical therapy appointment?
A typical session lasts one hour, on a one to one basis, either face to face or on Zoom/WhatsAp.
What benefits can I expect from working with a therapist?
Therapy helps us process emotions, thoughts, and feelings. It helps us feel connected and make a plan. It helps us manage things more easily than if we managed it alone. The value of seeing a professional is that they are an objective source i.e. they are “not in your life”, or not personally connected to you or the situation so can help you get perspective. Friends and family, despite their best intentions and love, are not equipped to help us deal with issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and recovery.
What is the price of a therapy consultation?
Upon making first contact with me via email or phone, I will be happy to give further details.
